What are your roles/duties in the club?

Along with Sophia, I help support the executive team in their tasks and duties and ensure smooth operations of the club.

Why did you start this initiative?

Sophia and I have always talked about starting a club at McMaster that directly impacts the lives of seniors in the Hamilton and neighbouring communities. We originally wanted to start something that would allow Mac students to visit local senior homes and provide light-hearted entertainment; however, due to the pandemic, we were all sent home before that plan could take flight.

 

At the beginning of quarantine, I started seeing many articles about the decreasing quality of life in senior care homes due to tighter visiting restrictions and just fewer opportunities to leave the vicinity. This is why we thought it would be great to do something to improve the lives of seniors, even during a pandemic, and that led to the start of Penpals for Seniors. I am so excited to see where this initiative goes in the upcoming year!

A fun fact about me is that I've lived in 3 different countries in the past 10 years!
